On Sunday August 10th, hundreds gathered at Kings Cross Methodist Church, filling the church to overflowing, to say a fond farewell to Revd Kong Ching Hii. Kong Ching has been one of the Ministers at Kings Cross Methodist Church for 14 years, latterly working with Deacon Tessa Bennett, who led the worship for this service.
Hymns and readings were chosen carefully to worship God and also support Kong Ching and his wife Yew Ming and their family as they go to a new area to work with different Methodist Churches. Revd Peter Cornick preached the sermon, thanking Kong Ching for his ministry in words of truth, prayer and pastoral care. He included a challenge to Kong Ching, and all of us, in living a life worthy of our calling, noting that we are all part of the whole body of Christ and differ in our gifts and calling.
Tributes were made to Kong Ching and recollections of his ministry and leadership and all the many times he has shared a helpful word, supported people in need, preached and served people in Jesus’ name. Kong Ching Hii has been a blessing to the Church congregations of King’s Cross and indeed to the West London Methodist Circuit and the national Methodist Chinese Congregations.
He, Yew Ming and their family will be dearly missed. The whole circuit prays for them and wishes them well in their new home, work and life.
This was a prayer which was used in the service:
Gracious and loving God, we praise and thank you,
for the life and ministry of Kong Ching. We thank you for the loving support of Yew Ming, and their family, and we give thanks for all they have offered to this church.
We entrust the family into your loving care,
knowing that you are always the faithful companion on the Way.
Shelter and protect them from all anxiety.
Grant them the courage to meet the future,
and grace to let go into new life; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Deacon Ruth Yorke
