News

A welcome from Reverend

Peter Cornick.

Welcome to the West London Mission Circuit!

The circuit comprises of two city centre churches: Hinde Street in Marylebone (near Oxford Street) and King's Cross (opposite the railway station). The circuit also includes a student hostel called Methodist Chaplaincy House and is connected to Strides, a community support organisation that offers a number of professionally led services.

There are five ministers in the circuit - a presbyter and deacon at each church and a supernumerary minister. The circuit also employs lay workers and administrative and support staff. Additionally, dedicated teams of Circuit Stewards and Circuit Trustees represent both churches and are responsible for various areas of West London Mission operations.

Hinde Street Methodist Church is well-known throughout the Connexion not only due to its historic links with the student community but also for its social projects. Today, it hosts over 30 Twelve Steps/Anonymous Groups, offers support to people who are homeless and vulnerably housed. Hinde Street is also part of the Inclusive Church movement, has a long-standing presence at London Pride, and conducts same-sex weddings. Worship is quite traditional and our members regularly meet as part of a 'class'.

King's Cross Methodist Church comprises of a Mandarin, Cantonese, and English-speaking congregation. The church supports migrants and those from a Chinese and South-East Asian heritage, also serving as a cultural centre for this community. The style of worship is fairly traditional, with a large Sunday School/Youth group. The church has a more conservative evangelical approach. Social outreach includes hosting a Winter Night Shelter and an Anonymous Group supporting people affected by gambling.

The Methodist Chaplaincy House (MCH) is a community living project housing 25 students supported by a deacon who also offers pastoral support. Due to the proposed redevelopment of the site, MCH is temporarily closed to students, but will re-open when the new building is complete.

For many years, the West London Mission Circuit has supported people with a number of different challenges. While this support has focused primarily on the issue of homelessness, the circuit has also provided counselling and other services for women, ex-military and people living with addictions. You can find more information about current social work on the Strides website.
